Box Score LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Senior David Cline scored 32 points--the most by a Biola player in three seasons--to lead No. 13 Biola to a 74-63 win over Simpson University in a non-conference game on Friday afternoon at Chase Gymnasium.

The Eagles improve to 2-0 with their second-straight 74-63 win to open the year while dropping the Red Hawks to 1-1.

Cline had an incredible game, hitting 12-of-18 from the field and adding six free throws to lead all scorers with 32 points. It was the most scored by a Biola player since Rocky Hampton scored 32 points during the 2010 NAIA National Tournament. Cline also added seven rebounds.

Sophomore Mike Kurtz hit 7-of-8 from the field for 16 points, adding five blocks and five rebounds for the Eagles while junior Zack Zaragoza scored eight points and had 13 rebounds, two steals and an assist.

Despite outshooting Simpson 52.8 percent to 37.1 percent, Biola had trouble pulling away as Simpson hit 10 three-pointers.

Biola opened up a 10-point lead at 24-14 in the first half on a three-pointer by Zaragoza with 6:44 to go. The Eagles still led by seven with 1:16 to play before halftime, but Simpson rallied, hitting two three-pointers over the final minute including a buzzer beater to head to the locker room tied at 33-33.

It looked like the Eagles began to pull away midway through the second half, using an 8-2 run to take a 57-50 lead with 7:48 to go. But the Red Hawks rallied again to tie the game on back-to-back three-pointers by Jonnie Washburn which made it 59-59 with 4:09 to go.

Biola took back the lead and still led by three with 2:13 left. Kurtz saved the day for the Eagles with a big bucket in the paint with 1:52 left to stretch the lead back to five. After a defensive stop, Zaragoza was fouled and hit both free throws to make it a seven-point game with 1:09 to go.

Simpson would finally miss a wide-open three and Biola secured the rebound, leading to a dunk by Cline to sea the game.

Biola dominated in the paint, out-scoring the Red Hawks 46-12 inside. However, the Eagles committed 17 turnovers leading to 12 Simpson points.

Washburn led the Red Hawks with 16 points while Guy Varsek scored 12 points.

Biola has a short layoff, returning to action on Saturday, traveling to Riverside to take on La Sierra University at 7:30 p.m.
