NIPOMA, Calif. --- Biola's Joshua Mathis shot a school-record 65 and finished tied for seventh place to lead Biola at the Firestone Grill College Invitational Tournament hosted by Cal Poly on Monday and Tuesday at the Monarch Dunes Golf Course.

Biola's men's team finished 10th among some of the to NCAA Division I teams on the West coast with a respectable score of 907 on the par-70 course. The women's team took home seventh place on the par 71 course with a score of 983. Cal Poly took home top honors on both sides.

Mathis wasted little time breaking his previous school record of 66 set in the final round of last week's Embry-Riddle Co-Ed Invitational by carding a 65 in the opening round of this week's invite. He would shoot a 76 on a tough second-round which spanned two days before recording a 73 in the final round to finish with a four-over-par 214.

For the women, Ava Lourenco placed sixth overall with a 12-over-par 225. She opened the tournament with a 75 and a 79 on the first day, bur matched the low-round in the final round with an even-par 71.

The rest of the men's competitors including Kevin Vandekamp and Joel Smith, who tied for 48th with a score of 231 (Vandekamp 73-82-76; Smith 72-81-78). Nick Grady took home 55th with a 235 (80-81-74) and Conner Penfold finished in 56th (80-79-77).

The remaining women's competitors were Jackie Mata, who finished in 19th with a 25-over 238 (75-81-82). Lauren Marlow placed 31st with a 247 (81-85-81) followed by Jasmine Rodriguez in 41st (85-95-93=273) and MEgan Anderson in 43rd (109-95-96=300).

Biola closes out the fall schedule on Monday, traveling to Cal State San Marcos for the Fall Classic at the Twin Oaks Golf Course in San Marcos.
