Biola Places Sixth at California State Intercollegiate Meet

HEMET, Calif. --- Despite competing against a tough field, Biola placed three players in the top 20 and finish sixth overall at the 2011 California State Intercollegiate Men's Golf Classic hosted by the University of La Verne at the Diamond Valley Golf Course in Hemet.

The Eagles were led by Joshua Mathis, who finished 11th overall. Mathis fired an impressive three-under 69 in the first round and then carded rounds of 73 and 77 to finish at three-over 219.

John Graham finished just behind him in 15th place with a seven-over 223, carding a team-low second-round 72 sandwiched between rounds of 76 and 75. Greg Bodine placed 17th with a nine-over 225 (72-76-77). Kyle Schrader placed 35th overall (74-85-76=235).

The Eagles' team total of 902 was three strokes ahead of NCAA Division II UC San Diego's 905 and 36 ahead of fellow NAIA competitor Arizona Christian.

Biola heads north to Oregon for the NAIA Preview Invitational hosted by Corban University on Monday and Tuesday.
