PHOENIX --- Biola's men's and women's golf teams opened up the 2011-12 season with a solid showing at the Arizona Christian University Fall Kickoff Classic as the women finished third and the men placed fourth over the weekend at the Moon Valley Country Club.

The women's team was led by junior transfer Lauren Marlow who shook of a first-round 83 and carded a one-over 73 in the final round to finish seventh. Marlow had a 12-over-par 156 for the tournament and her 73 was one of the best rounds in the program's short history.

Jackie Mata, a transfer from Cal State San Marcos, shot an 89-84 for a 29-over 173, good enough for 17th place overall. 

Megan Anderson shot a personal best round of 88 in the second round to finish 24th overall with a 38-over 18.

Overall the women were 126-over and finished 19 strokes ahead of Arizona Christian. The two were the lone two NAIA schools in the field.

On the men's side, Joshua Mathis and newcomer Kyle Schrader led the way for the Eagles. Mathis had a five-over-par 149 to finish eighth overall while Schrader was one shot back after shooting a 74-76.

Conner Penfold finished 14th overall after two round of 76 for an eight-over 152.

Biola placed fourth with a 38-over-par 614, finishing one shot ahead of Arizona Christian Univeristy and well ahead of the only other NAIA school in the field--Embry-Riddle of Arizona.

The men's team next heads to the California Intercollegiate which takes place in Hemet, Calif., on Monday and Tuesday while the women's team heads back to Phoenix for the Grand Canyon University Women's Fall invitational.
