BONSALL, Calif. --- Biola opened the spring portion of its 2010-11 schedule with a respectable 12th place finish among 14 teams at the Cal State San Marcos Spring Invitational at the San Luis Rey Downs Country Club in Bonsall on Monday and Tuesday.

The Eagles finished 12th place finish, finishing with a team score of 933, 69 shots over par. Holy Names edged out host Cal State San Marcos for the team title by one shot, recording a 19-over-par 883 for the win.

John Graham led the Eagles with a consistent tournament, carding rounds of 77, 75 and 77 to finish with a 13-over-par 229, good enough for 33rd place in the field. Kenny Gibo scored an 18-over 234. Conner Penfold (237), Greg Bodine (239) and Joshua Mathis (240) rounded out the group for Biola.

"We were a little rusty coming off the break," said Head Coach Hank Woodrome. "I don't think our team has reached its potential yet. I think in a couple of weeks when we go up north to Sacramento, hopefully we will get our feet on the ground.

"John Graham did a great job for us and putted really well," said Woodrome. "He's the kind of player that could challenge or win a tournament if he gets all aspects of his game going. His scores today weren't even to his caliber." 

The Eagles return to action on Feb. 21-22, taking part in the William Jessup University Spring Classic at The Ridge Golf Course in Auburn, Calif.
