LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Playing its second match in as many days, Biola was unable to pick up a victory in its first home match, falling 7-2 to crosstown foe Whittier College in a non-conference match on Saturday afternoon at the Biola Tennis Center.
The Eagles drop to 1-1 while the Poets win in their first match of the season.
Whitter swept through the doubles matches to take an early 3-0 lead in the match and took the No. 4, 5 and 6 singles competitions in quick fashion to seal thematch early.
The two best matches of the day both ended up with Biola victories. In No. 1 singles, Biola's
Weston Leopold outlasted Whittier's No. 1 by a final score of 6-3, 7-6 (7-4). Leopold held off a late charge to win in two sets.
At No. 2 singles,
David Mossman came back from a first set loss to win in three. After falling 4-6, Mossman battled back and won the second set 6-2. He then won the third-set tiebreaker 10-4 to take the match.
Biola returns to action on Tuesday, opening GSAC play with a home match against Vanguard University. First serve is slated for 3:30 p.m.
