Sarina Coutin and junior
Taylor Lundquist have been named to the Capital One Academic All-District 8 college division first-team as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Friday afternoon.
Both players have been solid contributors on the field for the Eagles, who finished the 2011 season with one of the best records in program history. However, this award honors their hard work and contributions in the classroom.
Coutin and Lundquist were two of 13 representatives on the college division first-team which is made up of NAIA, Canadian schools and Junior Colleges. District 8 encompassing Washington, Oregon, California, Hawaii, Alaska and the 13 provinces and territories in Canada.
Coutin, a forward from Saugus, recorded a 3.83 cumulative GPA as she works toward a degree in Physical Education while Lundquist, a midfielder from San Jose, has a 3.92 GPA in Liberal Studies. Both are also completing a Bible minor.
Coutin was key to Biola's midseason turnaround after missing much of the first half due to injury. She helped ignite the offense and scoring three goals--including two match-winners--and adding two assists all of that in just 644 minutes over the course of the season.
Lundquist appeared in every minute of every match for the Eagles this season--the only player on the squad to do so. She scored one goal and added a team-best six assists, providing leadership in the midfield and occasionally on defense.
To be nominated for all-district consideration, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) for her career. No athlete is eligible until he/she has reached sophomore athletic and academic standing and has spent at least one year at the school.
As members of the district's first-team, Coutin and Lundquist now eligible to earn CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-America honors. Six Biola athletes have ever earned CoSIDA Academic All-American honors, the last was Natasha Miller who earned third-team honors last year. The 2011 Women's Soccer Academic All-American team is scheduled to be announced on Monday, November 28.
