SALEM, Ore. --- Joshua Mathis finished with a seven-over-par 151 to finish 21st overall and lead Biola to a 14th place finish among a field of elite NAIA teams at the 2011 NAIA Fall Preview hosted by Corban University at the Creekside Golf Club in Salem on Tuesday.

Biola finished with a team total of 625, finishing one stroke ahead of Warner Pacific College (Ore.) and two ahead of Oklahoma Baptist University for 14th overall. The Eagles in turn were just two back of Simpson University, three behind Corban and eight shots out of the top 10.

The weather forced for tough playing conditions for everyone in the second and final round of the tournament. That was especially the case over the back nice as the Eagles went from being a combined six-over-par after nine holes to finishing 23-over-par after the back nine. 

Mathis, who was just one-over-par coming into the day, shot a 37 on the front nine, but ran into trouble on the back, bogeying five of the final nine holes to finish seven-over-par. However, that seemed to be the theme of the day for everyone and he still finished in the top 21 overall. 

Kyle Schrader finished tied for 49th with a 13-over 157 (76-81) as Biola's second-highest finisher. John Graham and Greg Bodine shook off tough first-round scores to finish tied for 63rd and 71st respecitvely. Graham recorded a 17-over 161 (82-79) while Bodine carded an 18-over 162 (83-79). 

Texas Wesleyan University won the event with a 12-over-par 588 and boasted the individual medalist in Blake Vinson, who fired a two-under 142. 

Biola closes out the fall portion of its schedule at The Master's College Fall Invitational on Monday, Oct. 31 and Tuesday, Nov 1.
