LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola senior forward
Jessilyn Conicelli has been named the first GSAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the new year, earning the honors for her efforts in three Biola victories last week.
Conicelli, who hails from Redlands, scored 62 points and had 29 rebounds in three games for the Eagles over the final week of 2010. All three games were wins for Biola as part of the 2010 Biola University Holiday Classic.
For the week, Conicelli was 24-for-48 (.500) from the field and 14-of-16 from the free throw line. She opened the tournament with 15 points and six rebounds in a close win over the University of Alberta on Tuesday. On Wednesday she recorded 19 points and 11 rebounds in just 25 minutes played for her seventh double-double of the season.
in the Eagles' final game of the tournament, Conicelli scored 28 points and added 12 rebounds as Biola defeated Evangel University 79-60. She finished 11-of-17 from the field, adding four steals and three assists.
Conicelli leads the Eagles with 16.5 points per game and leads the GSAC and ranks seventh in the NAIA with 10.8 rebounds per contest. She has reached double-figures in scoring in 12 of Biola's 13 games this year, scoring at least 15 in eight of those.
Biola returns to GSAC play on Tuesday (Jan. 4), traveling to Santa Clarita to face The Master's College, one of five teams tied with the Eagles atop the GSAC standings early on. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 p.m.
