EL CAJON, Calif. --- Biola may have waited a while to get the offense going, but the first match of GSAC play seemed as good of a time to start. The Eagles matched the total number of goals scored in their previous seven matches, crushing San Diego Christian 6-0 on Saturday afternoon in El Cajon.
Biola picks up its second-straight victory to improve to 3-4-1 on the season and 1-0-0 in the conference. The Eagles also run their undefeated streak to three with the victory. The Hawks drop to 1-4-1 and to 0-1-0 in the GSAC.
Freshman
Dylan Wingrove netted two goals and junior
Zach Bautista recorded three assists in the blowout as Biola scored early and often.
The Eagles opened up the scoring early in the match as senior
Phillip Friehe scored off a free kick just 16 minutes into the contest. Bautista took the free kick from the right side and Friehe finished off the post and in to put Biola up 1-0. It was a stark contrast from the numerous times the Eagles had hit the post and watched the ball rattle out.
The Eagles received an even bigger gift just eight minutes later as a a San Diego player was sent off with a red card in the 24th minute. Biola would go on to take advantage with five more goals while a man up.
Wingrove got the next goal knocking home a deflection in the 28th minute to put Biola up two. The Eagles would net their third goal before the half thanks to a great play by senior
Mike Teague. Bautista sent through a nice pass to Teague who finished to the far post for his first goal as an Eagle.
In the second half, Wingrove got in the act again in the 58th minute, taking advantage of a mistake by the Hawks' goalkeeper. After coming off his line to clear a ball about 25 yards away from the goal, Wingrove quickly gathered the ball and chipped it over the keeper who was scrambling back to the net.
Just six minutes later
Marco Ruvalcaba got into the act.
Jared Fenlason made a great pass from the endline to a wide open Ruvalcaba who sent it home easily to make it 5-0.
Senior
Kennedy Chongo closed out the scoring in the 71st minute, tapping in a rebound of a blocked shot.
Biola had 23 shots on goal while holding San Diego Christian to just seven.
Junior goalkeeper
Aaron Fenlason made three saves to record his third shutout of the season and second in as many matches. Despite having just three wins, Fenlason leads the GSAC with a goals against average of 0.60.
Biola returns to the pitch on Wednesday (Sept. 29), hosting No. 9 California Baptist University at 7:00 p.m. on Al Barbour Field.
