Hank Woodrome Tabbed to Lead Biola Men's and Women's Golf Teams

Hank Woodrome
LA MIRADA, Calif. — PGA Professional Hank Woodrome, a member of the European Senior Tour, has been selected to take over the reigns of the Biola University Men's and Women's Golf. Making that announcement on Tuesday was Director of Athletics Dave Holmquist.

Woodrome will become the second coach in the program's three-year history, taking over for John Lane, who is moving back to Colorado after completing graduate degree at Biola.

“I am thrilled for the opportunity to work with these kids,” said Woodrome. “Not only is this a great ministry opportunity, but also a chance to keep this program going in the right direction. I am excited to have the opportunity to do both.”

Woodrome is a local product who attended nearby Sunny Hills High School where he graduated in 1968–one year before Holmquist. After earning a business degree from Fullerton College, Woodrome turned pro for a brief stint in 1972. Twelve years later, he became a PGA Golf Professional and worked his way through the academy to become a golf instructor.

In this decade, Woodrome has spent time in Europe as a member of the European Senior Tour where he finished in the Top 10 on five different occasions including a dramatic victory in the 2003 Wallonia Open in Belguim. In that event, Woodrome, who has a late replacement in the tournament field, won in a sudden-death playoff after firing a final round 68.

Woodrome has a reputation even in Europe of being a fine golf teacher and currently teaches at the Yorba Linda Golf Club and at Golfer's Paradise in Fullerton.

“We are excited to have Hank as our golf coach,” said Holmquist. “His ability to teach and relate to young people, along with his strong Christian character makes him an excellent choice.”

Woodrome and his wife, Lois, live in Yorba Linda where they attend Yorba Linda Friends Church. They have a son Jason, 28.
