RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- Biola picked up its first victory of the 2010 season with a dominating 8-1 victory over La Sierra University in a non-conference match on Thursday in Riverside.
The Eagles improve to 1-1 overall while dropping the Golden Eagles to 0-4.
Biola got off to a quick start, sweeping the doubles portion. The No. 2 and No. 3 doubles matches saw the Eagles drop just four games, though the No. 1double match was a bit closer. Biola's
Brent Worthington and
Weston Leopold managed to hold off a late rally to defeat Brandon McCowan and Yoh Miyahara 8-3.
Biola put the match away quickly in the singles portion with a pair of straight-set sweeps at No. 5 and No. 6 singles as
Ryan Adams and
Nicholas Lazar cruised to 6-0, 6-0 victories. At No. 4 singles, Worthington nearly matched the perfect scores of his teammates, though wound up with 6-1, 6-0 win, as did
David Mossman at No. 2 singles.
Dan Westman rounded out the victors for Biola with a 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 3 singles.
The Eagles return to the courts on Saturday (Feb. 13), opening GSAC play against No. 3 Concordia at the Biola Tennis Center. First serve is scheduled for 9:00 a.m.
