Early Gap Too Much to Close

Eagles rally after first-period deficit in 12-7 matchup with CSUMB

LA MIRADA --- The Biola women's water polo team faced off against the Cal State Monterey Bay Otters in Splash La Mirada Regional Aquatics Center. The Eagles were unable to overcome a scoreless first period, falling 12-7. 

Myah Ibarra and Alyah Ibarra were the leading contributors for Biola, both tallying three points. Stephanie Rodriguez scored twice while Ava LoBue and Gwendolyn Pidd each added a goal. Fernanda Luna played the first three periods, making five saves and allowing 10 goals. Clara McKee covered the fourth frame making two saves and giving up two goals. 

The Otters dominated the first period, scoring the first four goals and keeping the Eagles scoreless.

In the second, M. Ibarra scored first for Biola. Pidd followed with a goal two minutes later. CSUMB answered with a score before A. Ibarra tacked on two before the end of the frame. The Eagles trailed 6-4 at the half. 

In the third period, both sides traded goals for the first four minutes. Rodriguez scored twice in the third, while the Otters logged four goals.

CSUMB added two insurance goals before LoBue closed out the scoring for BU. 

The Eagles drop their first conference game and look to bounce back in their final regular season game. They will host the CUI Golden Eagles, April 2 at 1 p.m.
