Biola stays perfect in WWPA play as Pidd scores six and Luna anchors dominant win over UC Merced

LA MIRADA --- The Biola women's water polo team remained undefeated in WWPA play, taking down conference opponent, UC Merced, 16-5.

The Eagles celebrated their four seniors, including Mia Mulhall, Emily Guedel, Devon Coppes and Ava LoBue

It was a perfect start to the day for BU, scoring the first three goals of the game. Destiny Moreno put Biola on the board with two and a half minutes through the first. Gwendolyn Pidd and Stephanie Rodriguez followed in the final three minutes before the Bobcats logged their first goal. Both sides added one more before the end of the period, courtesy of a goal by Annabella Rapp.

The Eagles dominated the second frame, outscoring UC Merced, 6-1. Pidd logged three straight goals through the first five and a half minutes. Kajsa Brown, Yalissa Tellez, and Karly Lepel scored the last three goals of the half, giving Biola a 10-3 lead.

In the third, the Eagles scored three goals in two minutes. Mulhall, Rodriguez, and Myah Ibarra each scored in that span. Berlynn Mani tacked on her lone goal, putting BU up 10.

The fourth quarter saw only three goals combined. Pidd scored on the first possession via a five-meter penalty. The Bobcats responded with a goal, before Pidd sealed the win just 30 seconds later.

Fernanda Luna was amazing once again, playing the first three quarters. Luna logged 17 saves and allowed only four goals. Clara McKee stepped in for the final eight minutes, securing five saves and allowing only one goal.

Pidd was the leading goal scorer for Biola, logging six goals and one drawn exclusion. Rodriguez tallied five points, via two goals and three assists. M. Ibarra was next with four total points on one goal and three assists. Lepel logged three points with one goal and two assists. Rapp, Mani, Tellez and Moreno each tallied individual goals.
