Early Lead Slips Away

Thomson and Villegas pace offense, but Jessup’s middle-inning surge proves decisive

LINCOLN, Calif. --- The Biola baseball team faced the Jessup Warriors for game three of four in McBean Park. The Eagles lost by a final score of 14-7.

Cole Thomson and Kevin Villegas led Biola offensively, going for a combined 5-for-8. Jonny Tewinkle and James Whitman drew a combined five walks, while Tommy Kendlinger tallied two RBIs.

Luke Caruso and Whitman put the first two runs on the board for either side in the second inning. After a leadoff single by Thomson, Caruso reached on an error and Whitman lined an RBI double to left field. The Warriors responded with three runs in the bottom of the third and five in the fourth to take the lead, 8-2. 

In the fifth, Kendlinger drove in Nick Madole and Whitman via an opposite field triple. Thomson drove in Kendlinger to bring Biola back to within three.

The Warriors answered with six runs across two innings, putting the win out of reach for BU. Whitman added another RBI to his total in the eighth, while Reef Danner tacked on the final run for the Eagles in the ninth.

Gabe Magallan got the start for Biola, throwing three and two-thirds. He allowed eight runs on seven hits and four walks while striking out three. Wyatt Nichol recorded the following four outs, allowing four runs on five hits and one strikeout. Nathan Hernandez tossed the final three innings, giving up two runs on three hits and three walks, striking out one. 

Biola moves to 15-16 overall and 11-12 in conference. They will conclude their series against Jessup, beginning at 4:30 p.m.
