Biola Blasts Menlo

Ballantyne Fans Eight as Thomson Goes 4-for-4 with First Career Home Run

LA MIRADA --- The Biola baseball team won their second straight in dominant fashion against the visiting Menlo Oaks. Backed by an explosive offensive effort, the Eagles took the win, 11-1.

Luke Ballantyne was brilliant again. He threw 6 innings of three hit baseball, allowing one run, one walk and striking out eight. Cole Thomson went 4-for-4, connecting on his first career collegiate home run.

"Ballantyne was lights out and in control the whole way," stated head coach Jesse Rogers. "Cole Thomson had a huge day with 4 hits, his first collegiate home run and 4 RBI's. Our offense was relentless, scoring early to get a lead and late to pull away at the end. It was a good day for the Eagles."

The Eagles jumped on the board in the first inning. After back-to-back singles from Jonny Tewinkle and James Whitman, Kyle Rogers hit a long single to right center field, scoring Tewinkle.

In the next inning, Oscar Knapp lined a double down the right field line. Thomson followed with a double of his own, driving in Knapp. Thomson would score on the next play by way of a throwing error.

After Menlo responded with a run of their own in the top of the third. Adiel Torres drew a two out walk, Knapp singled and Thomson drove in Torres.

Biola exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the sixth. Thomson started the inning, ripping his first career home run over the scoreboard in right center field. Josh McAninch and Luke Caruso both singled, setting up Tewinkle and Whitman, who hit back-to-back RBI singles. Rogers and Torres both walked and Knapp drove in Whitman via a sacrifice fly. Thomson drove in Rogers for his fourth RBI of the day and McAninch closed the inning with an RBI single.

Valentine Lopez closed out the game, allowing only one hit.

With the win, the Eagles improve to 7-7 overall and 3-3 in conference play. They will host the final two games tomorrow at Eagles Diamond, beginning at 11 a.m.
