Surge Before Half Helps Eagles Tackle Sunbirds

Biola gained separation late in the first half and pushed forward for a convincing road win on Saturday.


FRESNO, Calif. --- Biola showcased an impressive performance in its road game against Fresno Pacific at the Special Events Center. The Eagles pulled away with a commanding 81-65 victory, improving their record to 8-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play. Fresno Pacific falls to 3-7 and 0-2 in the conference.


The big run for the Eagles came at the end of the first half. Over the final six minutes and 19 seconds, BU put together a 14-2 run. Fresno Pacific was held scoreless for nearly six-straight minutes and Biola boosted its lead to 15 points at the half.

During the Eagle rally, Davian Brown starred with eight points. The squad netted three of six three-pointers and thrived at the line with five free throws on as many attempts.

Biola continued to press forward in the second half, securing the game with a consistent attack. BU scored on five-consecutive possessions for a 14-0 run and built a 28-point lead with nine minutes to go in the game.

​​Biola capitalized on Fresno Pacific's mistakes, scoring 20 points off turnovers compared to just 10 for their opponents.

The BU offense shot an impressive 48.1% from the field and a scorching 51.6% from beyond the arc, making 16 of their 31 three-point attempts. 

It was a total team effort on the attack with four Eagles reaching double figures in scoring. Howlin paced the squad for the second game in a row, tallying 14 points on Saturday. Casey Cappo (13), Brown (13), and Julien Franklin (10) also hit the double-digit mark.

The BU squad was also committed to the effort on the glass with all nine players with more than two minutes on the court, grabbing at least one board.

The Eagles continue their roadstand, facing Point Loma on Wednesday at 7:30 pm.
