VISALIA, Calif. --- Biola Baseball landed a big one when they signed Troy Stainbrook for the 2018 season. Stainbrook comes to Biola after spending time with the University of Hawai'i, Fresno City College and the College of the Sequoias.
 
The big left-handed pitcher graduated from Golden West High School back in 2015 and was a high school All-American before he began his college career.
 
"We needed to get younger on the mound this offseason, but also bolster the velocity from our staff. Troy has helped us do the latter in a big way," said Head Coach Jay Sullenger. "At 6-foot-7-inches from the left side with an upper 80's fastball he will make us better right away. Most importantly he has experience that we feel will add to many of the young arms he is coming in with in this class."
 
Stainbrook gained valuable experience during his high school career by helping his team to a pair of CIF Championships and winning himself a pair of all-league first team honors. He also assumed leadership roles on his teams over the last two seasons and earned all-conference honors last year with the College of the Sequoias Giants.
 
The big lefty went 6-2 with a 2.20 ERA at COS this past year. He led all relievers in innings pitched (61.1), wins, appearances (26), saves (7), strikeouts (70) and opponent's batting average (.213). He did not allow a single homerun in 2017.
 
"One of the things he was seeking was an environment that he could grow not just as an athlete, but as a man with God. He has led in previous places he played and we will look for more of that as he joins us this fall," said Sullenger.
 
Stainbrook made the honor roll three times in high school and has been featured on the Dean's List twice in college so far. He plans to study business marketing at Biola.
 
"I chose Biola because I believe that Biola will help me grow in many ways," said Stainbrook. "First, Biola will help me grow my faith by being surrounded by a strong faith-based supporting cast. The coaching staff will help me to grow both as a pitcher and as Christian. From the moment I stepped foot on campus, I knew Biola was the place for me."
 
He plans to enter a career as a Chief Marketing Officer once his time is up at Biola.
