LA MIRADA, Calif. --- For the first time in his career as a Biola student-athlete Micah Beyer has earned CoSIDA Academic All-American honors. The award is a prestigious honor that recognizes considerable academic achievement mixed with on-field impact.
 
Beyer has checked both of those boxes and then some over the past year with Biola Baseball. He was a consistent No. 2 starter for Head Coach Jay Sullenger in 2017 and led the NAIA in strikeouts for much of the year. He becomes the first Biola Baseball player to reach Academic All-American status since Boone Farrington back in 2014.
 
Beyer helped lead the team to a 35-18 overall record this season and second-place finish in the Golden State Athletic Conference. He ended the year 6-6 with 105 strikeouts in just over 86 innings pitched. 
 
In the middle of the on-field success Beyer worked his way towards graduation too. He finished up a degree in accounting and will return next season as a graduate student working towards his MBA.
 
Beyer was the only GSAC student-athlete on today's list of college division Academic All-Americans. He is one of four pitchers and 22 total student-athletes from the NAIA and junior colleges to earn the recognition.
 
Beyer is Biola's 44th all-time Academic All-American award recipient. He and Joclyn Kirton (women's basketball) earned the honor for the school this season.

In order to earn Academic All-American status student-athletes must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.3 or higher while making a big impact on the success of their team. The Academic All-American teams are selected from the Academic All-District winners in each sport.
