GULF SHORES, Ala. --- Biola Track & Field began competition at Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium during day one of the 2017 NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Thursday.
Â
The competition began in the early morning as
Ambernicole Hollinger kicked off her first national championship by competing in the women's hammer throw. Hollinger unfortunately came up short from recording a mark in the event.
Â
Next up was
Sarah Prystupa, also competing in her first outdoor national championship meet in the pole vault. The freshman finished in a tie for ninth at indoor nationals, just outside of All-American contention. Prystupa cleared 3.60m to finish 14
th overall in this meet. The 3.60m clearance matched her qualifying height.
Â
Finally, the women's 4x800m relay concluded the day by running in the prelims. The team of
Hannah Hunsaker,
Kathryn Doherty,
Lyndee Dawson and
Alisa Murray finished the race in 9:05.42 to finish second in their heat, third overall and qualify for tomorrow afternoon's finals. It was a great performance for a team that was seeded 9:22.06.
Â
The women's 3,000m steeplechase was originally scheduled to finish off the evening, but the event will skip prelims and go straight to finals on Saturday. Hunsaker,
