Eagles Make It A Match On Senior Day

Biola pushes Arizona Christian to the brink in a loss in its final match of the season at BTC.

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Playing not only their final home match of the season, but the actual final match of the regular season on Friday, Biola Women's Tennis celebrated senior day during its match with Golden State Athletic Conference rival, Arizona Christian.

The Eagles celebrated the careers of Madeline Heer, Kelsey Post and Brooke Sanford with cake, decorations and commemorative frames in appreciation of the time they've spent as Eagles.

Then the Firestorm and Eagles battled through a lengthy match of just under five hours before ACU ultimately earned the 7-2 victory.

The teams began the competition with singles, which were competitive all the way through. Three different matches required three full sets, which is what made the match last as long as it did.

It also proved that despite the lopsided score line this match was definitely very even all afternoon.

Arizona Christian won two of the three matches that lasted longer than the allotted two sets. The Eagles' only win in a three-setter came from Tinisee Kandakai in the No. 4 slot. She finishes her regular season with a 9-6 record in singles and a sparkling 6-2 mark against GSAC opponents.

The other win for Biola also came during the singles play, and it was also provided by a first-year Eagle. Lauren Lee improved to 5-5 over her last 10 times out and 7-11 overall on the season with an impressive 6-4; 6-3 straight-set win at No. 3.

Despite the deficit after singles, Biola would have a very real chance to win it with a solid showing in doubles. Unfortunately any chance to clinch the match went by the wayside as ACU earned a swift 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles. However, the Eagles did not give in at all once they knew the match was already decided. Biola's No. 2 and No. 3 pairings each fought so hard in forcing their opponent into an extra game in order to beat them. Both matches went in favor of ACU, but at 9-7.

Following the loss, Biola Women's Tennis ends its regular season at 6-13 (3-5 GSAC). The Eagles are currently in a tie for third place in the conference and will definitely make it into the GSAC Tournament. That will be played April 18-20 at Indian Wells.
