Eagles Win At Westmont For First Time Since 2004

Biola Women's Tennis avenged a 5-4 loss from earlier this year with a 5-4 win on Saturday.

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. --- For the first time in well over a decade Biola Women's Tennis has claimed victory over the Westmont Warriors at the Warriors' home turf!

Head Coach David Goodman's team traveled to Santa Barbara on Saturday with high hopes of improving their all-time record against Westmont and avenging a 5-4 loss from in La Mirada earlier this year.

The Eagles did just that as they worked a 5-4 win over the 13-time (and defending) Golden State Athletic Conference champions.

The victory helped Biola move into a tie for second place in the GSAC win column with their third conference victory of the 2017 season. It was Biola's sixth victory overall and they've now won three matches in a row.

Biola split its damage pretty evenly between singles and doubles as it won three singles matches and two doubles spots to win the five matches needed to clinch a win.

Lauren Lee and Brooke Sanford put up a convincing 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles and Tinisee Kandakai and Katie Boesl won 8-2 at No. 3 doubles to give the Eagles the advantage in that category. Lee and Sanford have now won seven matches in a row to improve to 9-6 in doubles this year. They are 6-1 in conference matches. Kandakai and Boesl also have had a great season in GSAC play with a 4-1 mark together.

It was the bottom half of the lineup that clinched the match for Goodman's Eagles in singles. Kadakai (No. 4), Kelsey Post (No. 5) and Boesl (No. 6) each earned straight-set wins to finish off the Warriors.

Post and Kandakai were locked into very intense matches with their opponents, each having at least one set going into a breaker.

Biola improved to 6-11 overall and are now 3-4 in Golden State Athletic Conference play. The six wins tie what the team managed last season and are the second-most wins in a single season for Biola Women's Tennis since 2010.

They are back to the Biola Tennis Center this week for a non-conference matchup with Azusa Pacific on Thursday and a huge GSAC match with Arizona Christian (also three GSAC wins) on Friday.
