LA MIRADA, Calif. --- It was a great week for Biola Baseball and Biola Softall between April 9 and April 15. The men earned a series win over No. 9 Menlo and Softball kept itself in good position in the conference standings with a pair of GSAC splits.
 
As a result of the positive results the Eagles had two student-athletes rewarded with Golden State Athletic Conference weekly honors.
 
It's deja vu all over again for Micah Beyer, who was recognized on Monday as the Golden State Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week for the second time in his career.
 
Beyer takes the honor for his commanding start this past Thursday in the Eagles' 11-1 series-clinching win over the No. 9 Menlo Oaks in Atherton. The junior threw seven innings for a complete game, allowing a single unearned run and only two free passes while striking out 12. Beyer was the first starting pitcher to punch out 12 Oaks in a game and raised his season strikeout total to an NAIA-best 94 in the process.
 
Beyer took this honor during this same week last season for an ironically similar performance during the week of April 10-16, 2016. During that appearance at Eagles Diamond, Beyer threw a seven-inning complete game without allowing an earned run to help Biola to a series win over these same Oaks.  
 
The 29-14 Eagles will try to reach the 30-win threshold during Tuesday's afternoon tilt with the Bethesda Flames at 2:00 p.m. Beyer will have to wait until the weekend GSAC series with Westmont (24-17, 10-13 GSAC) for his next start, when he will try to become the fourth Biola pitcher since 2000 to record 100 strikeouts in a season.
 
Areana Ramos came away with the GSAC Player of the Week honors for the second time in her two-year career. She last won the award for the week of April 11 one year ago.
 
Ramos helped the team split a series with San Diego Christian and also a series split with Hope International. Her bat and glove were shining all week long as she added a pair of outfield assists to her tally, played an error-free right field and led all starters with a .455 batting average.
 
She went deep in the Eagles' matchup with San Diego Christian and slugged .818 for the week (also a team high).
 
With her performances this week she pushed her season average over .400 (.404) and took the team lead in slugging percentage (.617). She's got 11 extra-base hits on the season, sitting second on the team in homeruns (4), doubles (6) and triples (1).
 
Following its performances last week Biola Softball set itself up to control its own destiny in the Golden State Athletic Conference. The team is tied for fifth heading into the final week of the season. They sit one game ahead of the last place team and need to stay ahead of them with a big week up at William Jessup and Menlo in order to earn a spot in the GSAC Tournament.
