Lee Shines In Match With No. 7 IWU

Biola suffers its ninth loss, but it showed well against a No. 7 ranked Indiana Wesleyan side.

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola Women's Tennis kept its busy season rolling along on Monday afternoon when it hosted the No. 7 ranked Indiana Wesleyan Wildcats.

The Eagles put up a good fight up and down the lineup, but really strong singles play from the visiting team left Biola coming up short in a 2-7 match.

"The girls team fought hard today. I was proud of our effort and desire to win," said Head Coach David Goodman. "Even though we're having a tough season so far, the girls are still working hard and doing many of the right things to set themselves up for success."

The Eagles' earned one win in singles and another win in doubles, but could not gain the advantage in either segment of the match.

The first win came at No. 2 doubles where Lauren Lee and Brooke Sanford came together to decisively earn a victory over their opponents. The second pairing won 8-4 in what was the second-largest margin of victory among the three doubles matches. This has been the most successful pairing for Goodman this year as they notched their team-best fourth win of the season.

Lee was also successful in singles as she earned a victory by winning the tiebreaker over her opponent at No. 3 singles. It was her third win in that position in the lineup this season.

"Lauren had lost a few close matches this year and it was great to see her step up her level and when a close one," said Goodman.

After earning a set one win, 6-4, Lee lost the second set to her opponent, Marissa Klein. This setup a very evenly matched tiebreaker bout in which Lee earned a 10-7 victory to lock things down in the final singles match to finish up.

Even though her team was down 7-1 at the time she was battling through, Lee showed tremendous will and desire in coming back after losing set two to win her match.

The Eagles fall to 2-9, while the Wildcats improved to an impressive 16-3. The Eagles are back in competition on Saturday at Hope International. It will be the team's fifth Golden State Athletic Conference match of the season.
