JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. --- It was not quite as busy of a final day of competition at the 2017 Indoor Track & Field Championships, but it was just as noteworthy as the other two days as the Eagles earned a national runner-up finish and All-American honors for another relay.
 
The women's team secured a 20^th place overall finish as they accumulated 15 total points, aided today by the work of Lyndee Dawson and the distance medley relay.
 
The men's team did not place as Ryan Thompson was the team's lone representative and he just competed today in the 5,000m finals. The sophomore finished 15^th with a 15:53.37 and was just a few places shy of being able to add a point for the Eagles.
 
The most notable moment of the final day of competition was when Dawson stepped to the line to compete in the 3,000m. She was a part of a group of three lead runners that duked it out for pretty much the entire race for a shot at the national title. Ultimately, she would finish second behind a standout runner from Oklahoma City with a time of 9:48.41. The top three runners finished six seconds or more ahead of the rest of the pack.
 
Four more All-American plaques will find their way into suitcases on the way back to La Mirada tomorrow because of the performance of the women's distance medley relay team of Dawson, Carissa Kalpakjian, Alisa Murray and Hannah Hunsaker. They combined to finish fourth overall with a time of 12:03.89. That race was another example of pretty extended gaps in between runners. The Eagles' group finished a full seven seconds in front of the fifth-place group.
 
Head Coach Sean Henning's team will look back fondly on what was the Eagles' final NAIA Indoor Track & Field Championship meet and will now turn its attention to the outdoor season. The team gets back to standard meets this upcoming Friday afternoon at the Occidental Distance Carnival.
