CARLSBAD, Calif. --- Another Karnazes is due to show up at Biola this fall as Sophia Karnazes commits to join the Biola Women's Golf team that her older sister, Mary, already competes for.
 
Sophia is currently finishing up her senior year at La Costa Canyon High School where she's been a four-time all-league player and has competed at the CIF Tournament each of her four seasons.
 
"Sophia has been a solid tournament player in her own right and it will be fun to see the friendly sibling rivalry between the two of them," said Head Coach Jane Carr. "When recruiting Sophia I was very impressed by her competitive spirit and drive. She has a quiet, confident, determined demeanor and I know she will be a great asset to our team."
 
Karnazes made quite the impression during her high school career. She's got a great senior season scoring average of 39 and set the league low in scoring with a 74 at a CIF playoff at Twin Oaks Golf Club. The Eagles play at Twin Oaks every year.
 
In addition to the great scores she put up on the course Karnazes also excels in the classroom. She's made the student-athlete honor roll each year and plans to major in business management when she gets to Biola.
 
"Selecting a Christian based faith education combined with a top academic university made it an easy decision [to choose Biola]," said Karnazes. "Also, meeting with Coach Carr and other teammates convinced me that the Eagles women's golf team was the best selection to play collegiate golf."
 
Outside of golf and her studies Sophia is passionate about her Greek heritage. Each summer she visits Greece, which is her mother's hometown. She's also actively involved in the Greek Orthodox Church and performs Greek folk dancing.
 
Karnazes will play her first tournaments for the Eagles in the fall of 2017. Her first year will also be the Eagles' first as an NCAA Division II institution.
