AMARILLO, Tex.---It was a big day for the Biola women's golf team who not only finished the NCAA Division II West Regional but also played the Biola Women's Golf Program's final rounds of golf.

The Eagles showed improvement in every round, scoring 327 in their first, 289 in the second and 286 in the third.

Biola's hard work paid off, allowing them to move up seven slots on the leaderboard by the end of the regional. BU finished the first round 16th of 18 teams and ended the regional ninth of 18 with a three round team score of 902.

"It didn't surprise me that this team fought back today after tough weather conditions day one and three weather delays on day two that ultimately ended in the cancellation of the round," shared head coach Dr. Jane Carr. "This team more than any team out here knows how to respond to the unexpected, what it is to be resilient despite disappointment, and how to stand strong when it would be easier to give up."

Carr continued, "Just days before our first spring tournament we were hit with the unexpected news that our program was being eliminated at season's end. That may have been the best preparation for the battle we faced this week in Texas. We had two incredible final rounds of our season and program history today shooting 289 and 286. These players have made Biola University known amongst NCAA Division II golf. We have had an outpouring of support from parents, players, and coaches outside Biola. It has been an amazing journey to becoming a nationally ranked NCAA Division II team, but in the great words of Tony Stark from the Avengers… 'Part of the journey is the end.'"

Karis Haltom and Melanie Reyes led Biola on the leaderboard. Haltom and Reyes ended the West Regional tied for 41st with three-round scores of 14-above-par 227.

When Reyes was asked about her experience at the West Regional, she responded, "Getting to represent Biola at West Regionals one last time as a senior was such an honor and privilege."

Reyes continued, "It was definitely a bittersweet moment, knowing it was the last regional I'd ever play in to close out my college career. I'm so grateful I got the opportunity to be part of this program for four full years— it's truly been one of the biggest blessings of my life. Playing alongside teammates I love so much has meant everything to me."

"This program has shaped me in so many ways, not just as a golfer, but as a person," concluded Reyes. "Every tournament was more than just competition— it was a chance to play for something greater, to cheer each other on, and to reflect God's love in the way I carried myself. I'll forever cherish this team, the memories we made, and the incredible opportunities we were given together."

Theresa Shaw was tied for 46th overall with a three-round score of 228 and she was followed by Rachel Shaw (T51, 229) and Claire Shubin (T73, 234).

Reyes recorded Biola's lowest second round score of par-71. Rachel Shaw scored one-above-par 72. Theresa Shaw and Haltom scored two-above-par 73 and Shubin carded seven-above-par 78.

Shubin earned BU's lowest round of the West Regional in the third round, scoring three-under-par 68. Haltom and Reyes earned one-above-par 72 in round 3, Theresa Shaw scored three-above-par 74 and Rachel Shaw carded six-above-par 77.

Biola's West Regional birdie leaders were Theresa Shaw and Shubin who recorded six each. Haltom and Rachel Shaw had five a piece and Reyes tallied four.

Rachel Shaw, another four-year senior, shared, "Representing Biola Women's Golf at our last ever regional was the greatest privilege, especially to do it with this team."

Shaw went on to say, "After a tough first day, we knew we had to fight today. We had an incredible day and I couldn't be prouder of my team. Even though we didn't advance to nationals, the resilience, grit and joy I've seen in this team is a testament to our depth and character."

"The Biola Women's Golf Program is my family and home away from home," concluded Rachel Shaw. "I can't believe it's all over. All I have is a heart of gratitude for everything this program has given me."
