Eagles Suffer Loss To Sewanee

Another great day from Lauren Lee stands out in tough loss.

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola Women's Tennis jumped back into non-conference play on Wednesday afternoon as they hosted Sewanee: College of the South from Tennessee.

The Tigers came into town and earned their ninth win of the 2017 season by beating Head Coach David Goodman's squad, 7-2.

The Eagles earned wins at No. 2 doubles and No. 3 singles to earn their two match victories, but lost in straight sets at the other spots in the lineup.

Lauren Lee had a strong day as she was the Eagle to win in singles and she combined with Brooke Sanford to earn the 8-5 win in doubles.

"Double started off close on all courts and was competitive throughout," said Goodman. "Lauren and Brooke have been playing really good doubles. They found their rhythm as a team and have won quite a few matches in a row."

The win was their fifth victory in a row and has helped them improve to 7-7 overall this season.

Lee had to go more than two sets in order to get the victory in singles play. She won the first set 6-3, lost the second set 1-6 and then showed great composure to win the breaker 11-9.

"The singles we weren't as competitive as I would have hoped, but had a bright spot with Lauren winning that match," said Goodman. "Early in the season she lost quite a few close matches and now has won the last couple of close ones."

Biola falls to 3-11 overall. They play again tomorrow afternoon against the University of the Southwest (N.M.). The match begins at 3:00 p.m. at home.
