Track & Field Championships Begin Tonight

Biola Track & Field starts the indoor championships with a heavy workload on night one.

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. --- For one final time Biola Track & Field is ready to compete at the NAIA Indoor Track & Field Championships, which begin today at the David E. Walker Track at Gentry Field in Johnson City, Tennessee.

Head Coach Sean Henning's team will compete in various events throughout the course of the next three days, including the men's 5,000m, women's 5,000m, distance medley relay, 4x800m relay, 3,000m, 1,000m, 60m dash and pole vault.

"We have the ability to do really well as a team if everyone has good to great days. We have some girls who have a challenging three days ahead of them, but I am confident they can handle the workload," said Head Coach Sean Henning.
"We don't have a big group here but we have a very good group. They have prepared themselves very well and I'm confident in their ability to have performances."

Included on the Eagles' nationals squad is: Ryan Thompson, Stephanie Chaires, Stephanie Croy, Lyndee Dawson, Hannah Hunsaker, Carissa Kalpakjian, Paige LaBare, Melissa Ledesma, Alisa Murray, Sarah Prystupa and Emily Ransom.

Last season the Eagles placed 10th overall in the women's standings at the end of this meet. The men did not register a team score.

Competition begins at 4:00 p.m. ET on Thursday as the women's 5,000m prelim is run. The Eagles will also compete in the women's 4x800m relay (5:30 p.m. ET) and distance medley relay prelims (7:30 p.m. ET) on opening night.

"I'm excited to get going today. We have two individuals and two relays competing in semi-finals today, and we are hoping that all of them make it to the final," said Henning. "We talked in our team meeting about the Parable of the Talents in Matthew and how we have an obligation to the Lord to make the most out of our abilities and give out absolute best efforts regardless of the outcome."
