LA MIRADA, Calif. --- For the first time in her five-year career as a Biola student-athlete Joclyn Kirton has earned CoSIDA Academic All-American honors. The award is a prestigious honor that recognizes considerable academic achievement mixed with on-court impact.
 
Kirton has checked both of those boxes and then some over the past year with Biola Women's Basketball. She earned all-conference honors for recording double-digit double-doubles and averaging nearly 15 points-per-game. She also posted great grades in her first semester of graduate school.
 
The forward from Everett, Washington is in her second season on the women's basketball team under Head Coach Alan Nakamura. She joined after four standout seasons on the volleyball team.
 
She's led the team to a 23-6 regular season record this year and a top-15 national ranking. Also, she will be making the trip to nationals with the team this season, which will make her fifth NAIA National Championship appearance after she led the volleyball team there four times.
 
All that to say, it's been a pretty special thing to get to witness Kirton over the last four years, and it is great to see her named as one of 10 student-athletes in the nation to earn CoSIDA Academic All-American honors in the women's basketball college division.
 
She and the Eagles are back in action on Saturday evening in Santa Clarita. They will face the winner of a first round contest between Westmont and San Diego Christian in a GSAC Tournament Semifinal matchup.

In order to earn Academic All-American status student-athletes must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.3 or higher while making a big impact on the success of their team. The Academic All-American teams are selected from the Academic All-District winners in each sport.
