PRESCOTT, Ariz. --- Women's Golf made its way back to Arizona this week to kick off the Embry-Riddle Spring Invitational. The Eagles opened with some great scores on Monday and sit in third place following the first 18 holes of competition.
Biola shot a 314 (+26), which was good enough to put them securely in the top half of the leaderboard in the seven-team tournament.
The Eagles' best scorer of the afternoon was
Tori Roeske. She started her tournament with a 73, which is one stroke off her season-best score. Roeske shot three birdies and 12 pars to build her strong score. Roeske is fourth overall and sits just two strokes back from the individual leader.
The only teams ahead of the Eagles after the first day were the hosts, Embry-Riddle (295), and Western New Mexico (300). The closest team trailing Biola is Arizona Christian (325).
Jenny Zhang and
Alexis Gopfert were the next two Eagles' scorers. They sat tied for 17
th overall with a round one 79. It is Gopfert's first time scoring for the Eagles this year.
All Eagles shot rounds in the mid-80s or lower in its strong first day. The final two rounds came in at 83 (
Bella Larson) and 85 (
Amanda Hobbs).
There will be one more round of competition Tuesday. The weather at Antelope Valley Golf Club is forecast to be 78 degrees and sunny.
