Second Half, Strong Half

Micah Beyer struck out 11 for the second time this season.

Box Score LA MIRADA, Calif. ---If the Eagles can bottle the offensive production they've found in the past two games they probably be near unstoppable. Biola cashed in an excellent start by Micah Beyer against Arizona Christian on Friday by scoring 11 runs in innings five through eight to win their fifth Golden State Athletic Conference game in a row, 13-4.

"Micah stepped up and did a great job for us on a Friday start," said Head Coach Jay Sullenger. "I think Micah has gotten better every start he's had as an Eagles and I'm glad the offense picked it up late to give him the win that he earned."

Beyer continued a very strong stretch for Eagles starters over the last three weeks. With 7.2 innings pitched on Friday, Eagles starters have gone at least seven innings in seven of the last eight contests against conference opponents. He definitely got stronger as the game continued, striking out seven Firestorm batters over his last 2.2 innings to finish with a total of 11 punch outs.

Beyer threw 113 pitches and saw the visiting team get to him for four runs in the middle innings. But the righty was ahead more often than not, inducing 18 empty swings, and benefitted from an offense that never let him down.

For the first half of the game, Arizona Christian starter Dillon Eaves was on par with Beyer and demonstrated the ability to work out of jams. Eaves kept the game scoreless after two by stranding the bases loaded for the final two outs of the frame, allowing his team to take a short-lived 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth.

Biola would roar back with two in the fourth and two in the fifth as Eaves' pitch count began to climb to its eventual summit of 99. The Firestorm righty was left with a no decision after five innings of work with six strikeouts.

Having the starter exit so early caused the Firestorm to be the first team to blink. ACU's defensive miscues allowed the Eagles to cycle through five different relievers over the final four innings until the dam finally collapsed in the seventh and eighth innings.

The Eagles took the lead for good in the seventh on a double from Ricky Perez that knocked in Jonas Wellan. The shortstop continued to show how locked in he is this week by reaching base safely twice on Friday and contributing an additional run.

As the eight hitter, Perez was right in the middle of the 10 hits and four walks produced by the second half of the Biola order. The Eagles took the lead three times during Friday's contest and the runs involved the five through nine hitters all three times.

"The offense has really worked hard in practice and I'm glad to see they got fruit for their labor again today," said Sullenger. "With Perez and Anj Bourgeois particularly, those are two guys who are working hard and really helped us out today because getting those hits at the back sets the table for the meat of your order and helps take the weight off of having to score runs."

The game broke open in the eight when the home team sent 12 men to the plate and scored eight runs. Joey Magro went 2-for-2 in the inning to collect have of Biola' hits during the frame.

The Eagles have scored a combined 27 runs in the past two games and have a five-game winning streak against conference opponents.

These two teams return to Eagles Diamond for a double headed on Saturday. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
