CORONA, Calif. --- Biola Women's Golf battled through frigid conditions out in Corona on Monday to complete its first round at the California Baptist Invitational. The Eagles finished the first 18 holes with a 329, which puts them in 12^th place out of a 16-team field.
 
The Eagles' lowest score of the day came from Jenny Zhang who shot a 79 to keep within just over a stroke of her season average of 77.88. She leads the Eagles in scoring average this season and consistently finds herself within striking distance of par because of her consistent play. Her 79 on Monday puts her in a tie for 22^nd in the field of 100 individuals.
 
Following Zhang was Tori Roeske (81), Amanda Hobbs (83) and Mary Karnazes (86) and Bella Larson (86).
 
The standout round of the day was definitely Amanda Hobbs' 83. The senior had been struggling to start the 2016-17 season and had not yet broken 100 despite a career average round in the 80s.
 
Seeing her return to form is a great sign for Head Coach Jane Carr's talented young squad. A mix of senior leadership and scoring can be all important if this team is going to look to continue to improve as the year draws on.
 
Samantha Burmeister (89) and Kristen Hicks (91) also competed as individuals during day one of competition.
 
The team will hope to improve on Tuesday too, as they sit within six strokes of moving all the way up into eighth place. They have a chance to pass Holy Names (328), Northwest Nazarene (327), Embry-Riddle (324) and CSU East Bay (323) with a solid round on the final day of competition.
 
The second and final round teed off at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday at Eagle Glen Golf Club.
