LA MIRADA, Calif. --- On Sunday, Small College Basketball named Dakari Archer to its initial 2016-17 Bevo Francis Award watch list.
 
The Clarence "Bevo" Francis Award is presented annually to the player who has had the finest overall season within Small College Basketball. Considerations will be season statistics and individual achievements, awards, personal character and team achievements.
 
Sunday morning's watch list announces the top-100 players in consideration for the award. On Feb. 15 that list is shrunk to 50 and on March 15 it goes down to 25 before ultimately one player will be selected as the best player in small college basketball.
 
Members of the watch list were taken from NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, NAIA Division I, NAIA Division II, USCAA and the NCCAA.

Archer leads the Eagles in scoring this season with 14.2 points-per-game. He's shooting nearly 50 percent from the floor and 40 percent from beyond the arc as he beats defenses night in and night out. He also is a key contributor to Biola's fantastic defense, which ranks second in the NAIA. 
 
Archer is one of four GSAC men's basketball players on the 100-person watch list. He's joined by Arizona Christian's Shy McCelland, Vanguard's Zach Allmon and Westmont's Cory Blau. Archer and Blau were both named to the award's top-100 watch list last season as well.

The Eagles' junior point guard has led the team to a 17-2 start and a top-5 ranking in the latest NAIA Division 1 Top-25 Coaches' Poll.
