Box Score LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola's Men's Soccer's string of clean sheets was rudely interrupted on Saturday night as the Menlo Oaks came to Al Barbour Field and stole a 1-0 victory over a red-hot No. 12 Biola Eagles team.
Â
The Oaks scored the first goal against this Biola team in 675 minutes when Issac Miselewicz snuck behind the Eagles' back line with a perfectly timed run very late in the first half.
Â
He was half a step from being offside, but the Oaks' midfielder got away with it and was able to tuck one past
Igor Puglia for the only score of the game. The senior converted his first goal of the 2016 season to send the Eagles into the halftime locker room disappointed to not still be tied at zero.
Â
Biola dominated the second half of play, holding Menlo to just one total shot. The Oaks settled in just a little bit as it looked to hold on for dear life against a relentless Eagles attack.
Â
Head Coach
Todd Elkins' team had five second-half shots, but none of them forced Alex Coates-McDowall to make any saves. The team's best opportunity was in the 51
st minute as
Leonardo Contreras had McDowall caught out of position but pushed the ball just a few feet wide right.
Â
That was probably McDowall's only mistake of the entire night as he was active and ranging all over the Oaks' defensive third. He came out of the 18-yard box on at least three different occasions to cut off any promising Biola runs.
Â
In the end, the work of Coates-McDowall and the big, physical Menlo back line really made the difference in Biola's ability to combine and create enough offensive pressure to break through and tie the game.
Â
Biola suffers its first loss since its season-opener back on Aug. 29. It is the Eagles' first loss at Al Barbour Field since Sept. 12, 2015. The team had won 12 in a row at home.
Â
They can get that home winning streak started once again when they host The Master's University at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday Sept. 28.
