LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola Men's Soccer began its season with the disappointment of a well-played 1-0 loss earlier in the week. All thoughts of that disappointment disappeared on Friday afternoon when Thomas Samayoa took a ball from Yuri Cruz and converted it to a game-winning overtime goal as Biola powered past Great Falls, 1-0.

The Eagles and Argos were entrenched in a bitter back-and-forth battle for most of the 99 minutes prior to Samayoa's score, but again it was clear that Biola was the better team on the pitch throughout the match.

Biola fired 18 shots in the match and five of them went on target, making UGF's keeper, Marc Girones earn is paycheck (if he got one that is). Girones was bailed out in a big way by his best friend, the goal post, as Leonardo Contreras, Devin Leon and Keaton Kerr all had good chances to score bounce off the post.

Two of those shots off the post came in an intense final 25 minutes of regulation as Leon hit the bar in the 65^th minute and Kerr had an attempt clank off the metal as late as the 74^th minute.

The final 25 minutes of play in the second half saw the Eagles have quality chance after chance after chance as Elkins' group was pressing hard to earn its first win of the season in its first home match of the year. Biola had one shot off the post, three shots blocked and another saved as it dominated possession of the ball. During that same stretch of time Great Falls was only able to muster up two shots that missed the frame way wide.
But, possession does not matter if there's no goal conversions, so the teams ended 90 minutes deadlocked and forced Biola into its first overtime affair of the new year.

That overtime period did not last long though, because on BU's first opportunity of the extra frame Samayoa managed to slam the ball into the back of the net and send the big contingent of Biola fans home happy with a 1-0 win. It was Samayoa's third goal of his career and Yuri Cruz's first point as an Eagle.

Biola moves to 1-1 on the year, while the Argos fall to 0-1 after losing their opener during the first day of a California road trip.

The Eagles are back in action on Monday evening as they host Rocky Mountain under the lights at Al Barbour Field as part two of a doubleheader with the women's team.
