SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. --- Biola Women's Golf's 2016-17 season got underway on Monday afternoon as Head Coach Jane Carr's squad completed its first competitive round of the year at the Art of Golf Classic.
 
The squad traveled to a chilled, breezy Bay Area to play this tournament, hosted by the Academy of Art, at the Presidio Golf Course. Presidio is one of the nation's top golf courses and sits just minutes away from downtown San Francisco.
 
It was a solid first day of play for BU as the team combined for a 341 to sit fourth in a field of eight teams. Academy of Art is leading the tournament at the halfway mark with a total score of 311.
 
Biola's first round positions it ahead of Golden State Athletic Conference foe Hope International and future PacWest Conference foes Point Loma, Holy Names and Dominican.
 
First-year transfer Jenny Zhang had the Eagles' low score of the afternoon as she carded a 79 during her first official round with Biola Golf. Zhang was consistent throughout the round, but she really played phenomenal on the course's front nine. She had pars on holes 1-7 to power herself to her final score of +6.
 
Tori Roeske, another newcomer to Biola Golf, had the Eagles' second best round of the day. She was right behind Zhang with an 80 (+7). She finished with par scores on 13 of her 18 holes and also had a significant streak when she rattled off six in a row on holes 10-15.
 
Zhang finished day one in a three-way tie for sixth, while Roeske sits tied in ninth place. The next three finishers for Biola were Lauren Van Horn (27^th – 88), Mary Karnazes (35^th – 94) and Amanda Hobbs (42^nd – 103). Van Horn had an up and down round, but she did manage the Eagles' only birdie of the day when she shot a two on the par-3 hole No. 4.
 
The Eagles are back at it for one more round on Tuesday. There will be a shotgun start at 8:00 a.m. Live scoring can be found at THIS LINK. The weather is forecast to be a low of 57, high of 68 with winds at 13 mph.
