LA MIRADA, Calif. --- In the second week of Golden State Athletic Conference weekly awards Biola Athletics claimed two of the seven awards following an undefeated week for its fall athletic programs.
 
Igor Puglia earned his first career conference award as he was named the GSAC Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, while Tess Van Grouw earned GSAC Volleyball Defender of the week for the first time.
 
Puglia helped the Eagles to two shutout victories last week as he manned the space between the pipes for Biola Men's Soccer. He was helped out a lot by the Eagles' talented and experienced back line, but he still had to make five saves to lead the team to two more early season victories.
 
Van Grouw and the Eagles' volleyball team also had a 2-0 week. She and the team battled through five challenging sets at Hope International on Tuesday before working a 3-0 win in the desert at Arizona Christian on Friday.
 
The junior libero ended her week with 50 digs (6.25 per set) and 41 successful service receptions. She added a service ace and avoided any service errors to complete a solid well-rounded week in the back row.
 
Van Grouw is fifth in the NAIA this season in total digs with 301.
 
Biola Men's Soccer is back in action on Wednesday as it hosts the University of Antelope Valley at 7:00 p.m. Volleyball is back at home for the first time in almost a month when it hosts Chapman at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday night.
