LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Fresh off a fantastic junior season at Biola
Jimmy Gallarda has been tearing up the California Collegiate League as a member of the So. Cal Catch this summer.
Â
Gallarda is making a strong case for himself to earn a spot at the CCL All-Star Game with his performances on the bump for Head Coach
Jay Sullenger and the Catch. He's been the most consistent performer for Biola Hall of Famer Ben Orr's summer ball team with five consecutive quality starts on the bump.
Â
The Eagles' captain currently finds himself inside of the top-5 in each of the three major stat categories tracked by the CCL. He's tied for second in the league with three wins, tied for fifth with 27 strikeouts and tied for fourth with a 2.08 overall earned run average.
Â
Gallarda has been especially effective over his last two outings. He's currently riding a streak of 13.2 scoreless innings and has piled on 17 strikeouts in those innings. He had a dominant stretch of eight consecutive batters retired by way of strikeout in a recent start against the San Francisco Seals.
Â
His last start was 6.2 shutout innings against the OC Riptide on July 3. Gallarda went head-to-head against another one of the top pitchers in the CCL, Dillon Miyashiro, and led his team to a 4-0 win.
Â
If selected to the CCL All-Star Game Gallarda would be invited to appear in the league's prospect showcase and ASG at the MLB Urban Youth Academy in Compton on July 13. The game will be televised on Fox Sports Prime Ticket at 7:00 p.m.
