EagsUpMoments Quarterfinal 2

Men's Basketball

#EagsUpMoments: Quarterfinal #2

Men's Basketball vs. Men's Basketball in this second of four quarterfinal matchups.

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Since 2015-16 was such a remarkable time for Biola Athletics we decided to enlist the help of all of our faithful Twitter followers in deciding the year's top moments during a series of Twitter Polls this summer.

Rather that come up with our department's top-10 moments in some closed door meeting and then release them one by one we decided to come up with a top-16 list and then use these Twitter polls to narrow it down and see what you all think was the moment of the year.

Over the course of the next two weeks we will release a new Twitter poll during each business day that pairs a couple of our top moments head-to-head. The results of the fan vote will move one moment forward in the bracket with a chance to be the year's top moment.

We've selected 16 key happenings spread throughout the academic and athletic calendar that we think helped make 2015-16 as special as it was. The moments range from conference championships to big comebacks to individual national championship efforts.

Each morning we will post a brief preview of the day's matchups on athletics.biola.edu and then encourage those who follow us on Twitter to vote for their favorite moment.

Quarterfinal 2 (July 18):
Men's Basketball Wins GSAC Tournament on TV vs. Dr. Dave Holmquist Wins 900th Game

MOMENT 1: Biola Men's Basketball recorded its first 30-win season since 1997-98 in 2015-16, but perhaps none of those 30 wins were a big as this one. The Eagles faced Hope International on its home floor in the GSAC Tournament Championship game on Feb. 27, 2016. It was Biola's first time in the GSAC Tournament Championship game since 2011-12, and it was the first time the program ever played in a regionally televised contest. In another strong defensive showing the Eagles claimed their second GSAC crown of the season with a 65-59 win over the Royals that clinched a No. 1 seed for Biola at the national tournament.

MOMENT 2: A moment 39 years in the making came to fruition on Nov. 24, 2015 as Dr. Dave Holmquist led his team to a 79-60 win over the Bethesda Flames to secure his 900th career coaching victory. The 900 wins span his 36 years at Biola and three seasons at Fresno Pacific. With his 30-4 season in 2015-16 he's just 15 wins shy of 900 overall at Biola. He became just the 8th coach ever to reach the 900 win plateau in 2015-16 and blew straight past it to now sit at 921 overall. He's 7th on the all-time coaching wins list amongst all levels of 4-year college coaches. He sits just two wins behind Don Meyer (Lipscomb) for sixth all-time.
