LA MIRADA, Calif. --- The Golden State Athletic Conference released Friday afternoon that
Neil Morgan, from Biola University, has been named the 2015-16 Sports Information Director of the Year. Morgan just completed his third year at Biola and is responsible for coordinating game management for all home events, maintaining statistics for all sports, producing and distributing media releases and managing the department's website (athletics.biola.edu) along with its numerous social media channels with multimedia communication.
Â
Morgan maintains the daily social media presence of @BiolaAthletics on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. He led the NAIA in Instagram followers gained for the 2015-16 season (989 gained). Â
Biola Athletic Director, Bethany Miller, said this about Morgan's work, "
Neil Morgan is excellent in all aspects of his work. He has an incredibly positive spirit, tremendous work ethic, and goes above and beyond to serve his colleagues, coaches, and student-athletes. He does really great things for Biola University and the GSAC."
Â
Morgan also contributes his time at the conference level as well as the national level. He has been the GSAC SID Chair for the last two years, served on the GSAC Player of the Week voting committee, served as the tournament director for the GSAC Men and Women's Soccer Tournament, served on the National Player of the Week voting committee, and served on the NAIA-SIDA Publication Contest Committee. He also started and held the first ever GSAC SID Professional Development meeting.
Â
"It's a true honor to be selected for this award among a group of well-respected, talented and hard-working SIDs like we have in the Golden State Athletic Conference," said Morgan. "It's just a blessing to be able to spend each day working at an institution like Biola that has such a loving, God-honoring community. It's a true pleasure to spend my time dedicating my work to serving the student-athletes. Oh, and I could do none of this without the hard work from my great student workers!"
Â
Morgan responsibilities also include writing all the press releases for Biola's 19 varsity intercollegiate sports. He also has active relationships with local media outlets and has produced online video broadcasts of home athletics events for volleyball, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's basketball, baseball, softball, and tennis. Some of Morgan's work has been featured in the Los Angeles Times, OC Register, La Mirada Blog, and the Whittier Daily News.
Â
Miller went on to say, "We are thrilled that Neil has been selected by his peers as the GSAC Sports Information Director of the Year. The GSAC institutions have a hard working, professional, and innovative group of SIDs, so this award speaks both to the talent and the teamwork that Neil has offered to our colleagues."
