ELK GROVE, Calif.— The Eagles' men's soccer program brings in goalkeeper Robert Sams from Cosumnes Oaks High School to join the team this fall. Sams will make his way down south and compete right away to make a positive impact on Biola on and off the field.
 
Sams earned two varsity letters in his time at Cosumnes Oaks. He set multiple school records including shutouts (10), saves (96) and goals against average (.060). He led his team to a 18-1-4 overall record and hopes to have the same success on the field for the Eagles.
 
"Robert has great quickness and instincts in front of the goal," said Head Coach Todd Elkins. "He takes pride in his shot stopping ability and displays great confidence on the field."
 
At Cosumnes Oaks, Sams led the Wolf Pack to a Capital Valley league championship in 2014 and 2015 and a division II section championship in 2016. He was an all-league honorable mention in 2014 and made the all-conference team in 2015.
 
"I chose Biola because of the Christian environment as well as their connections to the LAPD," said Sams.
 
Sams also saw a great deal of success in the water as a swimmer. He was a four-year varsity member and qualified for sectionals in all four of those years. He captained the team for their 2016 season and was selected to the all-conference team in 2015 and 2016.
 
Classroom success was important to Sams as he earned the scholastic athlete award posting a 3.0 GPA in high school. At Biola, he plans to major in sociology and criminology. He hopes to one day become a police officer and detective.
