LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola Baseball and Softball have been done with their competitive seasons for about a month, but the Eagles' student-athletes continued to work diligently in the classroom through finals last week.
 
Their efforts were rewarded on Wednesday as the NAIA released its 2016 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes. Five student-athletes from Head Coach Jay Sullenger's squad earned the honor while Kimmy Triolo represented Head Coach Lorie Coleman's softball team.
 
It was Triolo's first NAIA Scholar-Athlete honor in the first year she was eligible to earn the award. She is a junior pitcher/designated player and majors in communication disorders.
 
All five of the baseball players to be honored were also third-year players who earned their first career honors in their first year eligible.
 
Micah Beyer, Andrew Frank, Rawley Hughes, Sean McCarrell and Daniel Rasmussen all finished the year with a cumulative grade point average higher than 3.5 to take home the academic award.
 
In order to be eligible for a scholar-athlete nod the student-athlete must be at least a junior or senior academically and have that cumulative GPA higher that 3.50 on a 4.0 scale.
