Gasner Named GSAC Women's Track Athlete of the Month

Anika Gasner's special performance at the GSAC Track & Field Championships powers her to recognition.

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Following a week where she capped off an illustrious Golden State Athletic Conference career with two more individual GSAC Championships and four more all-conference honors Anika Gasner was awarded the GSAC Women's Track Athlete of the month award for April 2016.

The award was largely driven by the senior's success at her final conference championship meet during the final week in April. She had a hand in securing about 10 percent of Biola's total points as she led the team to its third conference title in the last four seasons.

She scored 20 points by herself as she won the 800m and 1,500m for her second and third individual conference track championships. She also helped the women's team run to first place in the 4x800m relay in order to up her career total of championships increase to five.

Adding one-quarter of the points the team earned from the two relays she participated in to her total from the two individual events Gasner accounted for 24 of the Eagles' 286 points. Biola compiled 1.5 more points than its rival Westmont in order to secure the program's third championship.

Gasner also competed at the San Francisco State Distance Carnival, Pomona-Pitzer Invitational and a mix of the Bryan Clay Invite and Long Beach State Invite during the month of April, which helped her attain the award.
