Bria Madrid Named NFCA All-West Region

Bria Madrid earns all-region honors for the third time in her four years at BU.

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Bria Madrid is one of 172 student-athletes to earn 2016 all-region recognition from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. She was named All-West Region second team when the association released its annual awards on Monday morning.

Madrid was recognized as one of the 31 best NAIA softball players in the west region. She earned a spot on the list as an at-large selection. The all-region list is comprised of two pitchers, two catchers, two shortstops, six outfielders, one of every other position and 15 at-large selections.

Madrid concluded her fourth season with Biola by hitting .336 and compiling an on-base percentage of .413 while serving as one of the primary voices of leadership on Coleman's team.

She played in 46 of Biola's 52 contests and started 43 of those behind the plate as one of the most formidable catchers in the 7-team conference. She finished her career with a .990 fielding percentage and was especially adept at catching runners trying to take bases off her pitchers.

She was fourth on the team in 2016 with 42 hits, and her .336 batting average was a new career best. After another stellar year during her senior season she ends as the school record holder in putouts, pickoffs and runners caught stealing.

Madrid's honor in 2016 marks the third time she's been on the All-West Region second team in her four-year career as an Eagle.
