DOWNEY, Calif. --- After a tremendously successful high school career as a dual-sport athlete at Park Prep High School Luis Medearis spent one season as a redshirt at CSU Dominguez Hills and one year playing basketball at Cerritos College before committing to join Biola Men's Basketball.
 
Medearis made the decision to join Dr. Dave Holmquist's team earlier in May and will have three years of eligibility left for his time with the Eagles.
 
"Luis is an experienced player who was a key player on a good Cerritos College team," said Head Coach Dr. Dave Holmquist. "What I like most about him is that he emphasizes all the different parts of the game. Along with scoring he's a good rebounder and a hard-working defensive player."
 
During his one year in competition he earned all-conference recognition as he led the Falcons to a 21-10 overall record and perfect conference mark. He averaged 21.6 minutes-per-game and was one of three players to average double-digit scoring for Cerritos as he put in 11 points-per-game.
 
He led his team in three-point shooting with 48 total three-point shots made (.346 pct) and he had the seasons' best scoring output with one 25-point performance in a loss to East Los Angeles College.
 
"He's a great fit for our school and he really wants to be here," said Holmquist.
 
Medearis played varsity football and varsity basketball for the Knights during his high school career. His teams earned three CIF Championships (2 basketball and 1 football) and he earned four combined all-league honors.
 
He also made the honor roll during his junior and senior seasons, which showed his high abilities in the classroom as well. During his time at Biola he plans to major in human biology and hopes to later enter a career as a nurse practitioner.
 
"I chose to pick Biola because of the brotherhood I felt as soon as I drove onto the campus and played with the guys," said Medearis. "It's also close to home so I can be close to family while growing in my faith. I also wanted to be able to play at one of the top schools in California."
