LA MIRADA, Calif. --- After helping lead Biola Softball to its fourth consecutive 20-win season senior catcher Bria Madrid is awarded with her third career all-conference honor.
 
Madrid was recognized as one of the 20 best players of the conference as the coaches voted for the best players at their respective positions. Those 20 players make up the 2016 All-GSAC team presented by Under Armour. Madrid is the only member of this 2016 Biola team to earn that recognition.
 
"Bria was recruited from one of the best organizations in the country," said Head Coach Lorie Coleman. "She's been rock solid since the first day she got here. Behind the plate she has been fantastic, and she's also always been a threat with the bat too."
 
Madrid concluded her fourth season with Biola by hitting .336 and compiling an on-base percentage of .413 while serving as one of the primary voices of leadership on Coleman's team.
 
"She came in as a really good player, and she left as a really good leader," said Coleman.
 
She played in 46 of Biola's 52 contests and started 43 of those behind the plate as one of the most formidable catchers in the 7-team conference. She finished her career with a .990 fielding percentage and was especially adept at catching runners trying to take bases off her pitchers.
 
She was fourth on the team in 2016 with 42 hits, and her .336 batting average was a new career best. After another stellar year during her senior season she ends as the school record holder in putouts, pickoffs and runners caught stealing.
 
"After her freshman season we realized that Bria had the gift of calling pitches so we allowed her to call the games since her sophomore season," said Coleman. "She's caught some of the best pitchers in Biola Softball history in Sarah Enriquez, CeCe Luster and Reba DePriest, and she played a huge role in helping each of them be the best they could be."
 
Coleman also mentioned that she and the coaching staff have been awed by the arm on Madrid since her freshman season. She noted that whenever an opposing team decides to attempt to run on Madrid she and the rest of the coaching staff would just look at each other and ask "Why do they keep trying that?"
 
Madrid's honor in 2016 marks the 38^th time a Biola Softball player has earned all-conference recognition in the GSAC.
