LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola Baseball had another outstanding week as it worked a 3-1 overall record and came just one good inning shy of a 4-0 record and a conference sweep of Menlo College.
 
Sam Thorne and Micah Beyer shone especially bright during the week of April 10-16 and were rewarded for their efforts with honors from the Golden State Athletic Conference conference office.
 
Thorne hit .500 in the Eagles' four games against solid opponents in Bethesda and Menlo. He accumulated eight hits and five of those eight hits went for extra bases as the junior slugged 1.063.
 
He improved his season batting average to a spot over .360, which helped him move into third among all hitters in the GSAC this season. He also added two round trippers as he bashed his fourth and fifth homeruns of the season during the weekend series with the Oaks.
 
Thorne's efforts earned him GSAC Baseball Player of the Week honors for the first time in his three-year career.
 
Beyer got the call to start the final game of the week as the Eagles looked to win the three-game series against Menlo with a victory in the series finale. It was a tall task as Beyer had to go head-to-head with Ashkhon Kauhualua, who is one of the best pitchers in the conference and came into the day with nearly 12 strikeouts-per-game.
 
Beyer outdueled the imposing Menlo ace as he worked a complete game shutout and handed Biola its 11^th consecutive series without a series loss. It was the first complete game shutout of his young career.
 
Over his seven innings of work he managed to strikeout eight and hold the powerful Oaks offense to just two hits. For some perspective, Menlo accumulated 26 hits across the other two games of the series. Beyer's eight strikeouts gave him one more than his opponent, who leads the conference in Ks.
 
For his strong outing the GSAC rewarded Beyer with a selection as the GSAC Pitcher of the Week. It is the first conference honor of Beyer's career.
 
The Eagles improved to 26-20 overall and 14-10 in conference with their successful week. The season continues this week with a road game at Providence Christian College on Tuesday and a road series at conference-leading Westmont over the weekend.
