LA MIRADA, Calif. --- It was a stellar week for Biola Baseball and Biola Softball between April 3-9. Both teams won two-thirds of their contests and managed to improve their standing in the Golden State Athletic Conference.
 
As a result of this success some of the individual efforts that made the wins possible were rewarded with honors from the conference office. Jimmy Gallarda earned his first career GSAC Pitcher of the Week honor and Areana Ramos earned her first GSAC Softball Player of the Week award.
 
Gallarda got the start in Biola's 2-0 afternoon victory over San Diego Christian on Friday and went all seven innings of the shortened game while shutting out the Hawks. He had a 2:1 strikeout-to-walk ratio and improved to a streak of 20.2 consecutive innings without allowing a earned run.
 
Off the mound he hit .333 and drove in three runs while clubbing his second homerun of the season and leading the team in slugging.
 
Ramos, a freshman outfielder, also led her team in slugging. She hit .636 in Biola's six games on the week and slugged an astounding 1.273. She was one of three Eagles with a slugging percentage up over 1.000 during a very successful week at Freedom Field.
 
Ramos had a breakout week in leading the team in hits and runs scored, hitting two homeruns and driving in the second most runs on the team. She had seven hits in the six games this week after having a total of seven hits in her previous 31 appearances combined.
 
Biola Baseball and Softball are nearing the end of each of their regular season schedules. The baseball team has its final home series this weekend when it hosts Menlo. The softball team is at home one last time next Tuesday when it hosts San Diego Christian.
 
Gallarda and Ramos are now both nominated for their respective national pitcher and player of the week awards.
