Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 LA MIRADA, Calif. --- With two wins Tuesday, Biola Baseball reached double digits in the win column by the second week in March for the first time since 2013. It took a while for the Eagle bats to shake off their slumber, but they woke up just in time against the Dallas Christian College Crusaders for a walk-off 5-4 win in game one and kept cooking for a 13-1 rout in game two.
 
As the only Eagle with multiple hits, left fielder Aaron Chavez was the offensive MVP in game one, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and a walk. Chavez' walk and third RBI came in the bottom of the ninth inning with the bases loaded to win the game for Biol. It capped a two-out rally that loaded the bases and scored the fifth run without the benefit of a hit.
 
The Eagles had only one extra-base hit in game one, a Jeremy Barth double in the second, but kept putting men on base throughout the entire game as 16 runners reached base via a hit or walk.
 
Gabe Ihrig got the start for Biola and deserved a win after going five innings with five strikeouts while only allowing four hits. But the Crusaders dug their heels in in the top of eighth to score three runs on three separate plays and thereby handed Ihrig a no decision.
 
When Biola eventually won the game in walk off fashion, Sam Thorne got credited with the win, the first of his collegiate career. Thorne has now thrown three innings in two appearances and has not been charged with a run since he was pressed into service as a late inning reliever this past Saturday.
 
The second game rested firmly in the hands of the Eagles from the word go after the offense jumped out to a three run lead after the first inning. Two runs came on a single by Alec de Watteville after the Crusader fielders made consecutive errant throws to score deWatteville and JD Meyer in front of him.
 
Seven runs scored on balls off of deWatteville's bat in game two, five of which are credited as RBI to his season total, which is now at 19. He also hit the only homerun of the game in the fifth inning when he smashed a grand slam to left center and made the score 13-0.
 
Daniel Jang was credited with the win after four innings of quality work to improve his record to 3-3. Jang ended his start by retiring the last 11 Crusaders he faced consecutively, and midway through that stretch he had a period where he induced five outs on just five pitches.
 
Additionally, Sam Thorne reached base safely when he was hit by a pitch in the fifth, which extends his streak of games reaching base safely to 22 in a row. Thorne now has more hit by pitches (8) than he has strikeouts (5) and leads the team with a .422 OBP.
 
Biola is now 10-15 on the year and reenters conference play this Friday in Arizona against the ACU firestorm. Game one of the three game series begins this Friday at 2:00 p.m.
